Festival Style: Zara Inspired DIY Jewelled Slides

There have not been many items in my life where I have immediately needed that item in my closet. I’m a pretty frugal shopper, and my creative brain often jumps to ‘how can I make that’ rather than ‘I need to buy that’. At Memory Ball this year, one of the members of the Young Leader’s Council of the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto, Elena, had on these beautiful Zara shoes.

The beautiful sequins, fun colours, and 90s nostalgia of a slip on sandal, had me swooning. At $70, they are not unreasonably priced, but I knew they were slightly unreasonable for me. Prone to blisters, and with a habit of walking everywhere, these babies were a beauty that I probably would hardly wear, and that’s just not something I could justify purchasing.

However, the more I coveted them online, the more I realized I might be able to make something similar.

The Inspiration: Zara $70 CAD

Using a pair of Urban Outfitters’s Jelly Pool Slides, and a variety of old accessories, and some findings from Kensington Market’s vintage shop, Courage My Love, I created a unique pair of my own bedazzled slip-on shoes. While not as glamourous as the above from Zara, I am more than happy to wear these to festivals all season long!

A simple DIY that includes some super glue, a variety of old earrings, buttons and jewellery, and some patience as you decide on the perfect placement. A pair of wire cutters and pliers come in handy too!
