5 Unique Date Ideas for When You’re Travelling to Phoenix

Whenever Rowan and I travel, we look for great spots to have a little date night. When we were in Thailand, one of our favourites was our cooking class, and in Iceland we celebrated our fifth anniversary with drinks and dinner at a cool restaurant. I’ve put together a bunch of great ideas if you are travelling in the Phoenix area, somewhere that is definitely on my list of travel spots because of its cool desert vibe. I can just think of all the cute couple photos now!

The Heard Museum

One of Rowan and my first dates was to a museum in Toronto. When we were in Iceland, we purchased passes to museums to check out. That’s the most museums I’ve ever seen in 24 hours, for sure!

The Heard Museum is in downtown Phoenix, near lots of amazing Phoenix hotels, which is great if you’re walking. It’s also close to a bunch of other attractions, like the Phoenix Art Museum, if you want to spend the day museum-hopping like we did in Iceland.

Desert Botanical Garden

This is my dreamland! The Desert Botanical Garden is a beautiful plant oasis, filled with a variety of species. How cute would all the couple selfies in this garden be? I know I could spend an afternoon walking through and admiring everything about this place. It would definitely worth taking a half day or more to see this spot.

For just $25 USD adults can check out the exhibitions and special events the garden has to offer. For $30, you can check out the garden’s Music in the Garden event, which is just for adults 21 and over with food and drink. What a way to spend an evening in Phoenix!

Salt River Tubing

While Rowan isn’t a fan of the water, I am a mermaid at heart. With the Arizona heat, who wouldn’t want to go for a fun tubing experience in the Salt River? Opening back up in May, Salt River Tubing is a short distance from downtown Phoenix and definitely a fun way to stay cool and have some adventure during your trip.

Catch a Roller Derby Game

I’m really excited to start roller derby in Toronto, and to be honest, the games are a lot of fun to watch. They are much more reasonably priced and a bit different from your traditional sporting events. Phoenix has a bunch of leagues and a place where you can skate yourself if you’re interested in lacing up a pair of skates.

Fry Bread House

I can’t do a date night list without adding a super cool restaurant to the post, can I? This fry bread restaurant looks super tasty and has really great prices, too. Two people can eat for under $15, so you definitely won’t be breaking the bank. You could combine a meal here with any of the above dates, and you’re golden!
