Sometimes when you’re travelling, you don’t have a whole lot of time in one city. Maybe it’s a long layover, or maybe you’re passing through on a road trip. Regardless, there’s a lot to see in a city in a short period of time. When I have 24 hours in a location, there are four things that matter the most: finding incredible food and drink, learning a bit about the city, staying in a cute and cozy hotel, and finding some breathtaking sights. Based on these ideas, here are recommendations for spending 24 hours in Albuquerque, New Mexico!
Enjoy Local Food and Drink
I’ve mentioned before that when I travel, I like to try out the local craft beer by heading to a brewery. Albuquerque has a great selection of breweries and brewpubs, many of which also serve tasty pub fare. Red Door Brewing currently has a seasonal Father’s Day beer, a Peach Patersbier, which sounds right up my alley! If you are looking for fine dining, try the highly rated Farm and Table, a restaurant with a menu that focuses on locally grown food.
Immerse Yourself in the City and Culture
If you want to learn a bit more about the area you are visiting, it’s always a great idea to check out some of the museums. The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is rated as a top place to visit. Given Albuquerque’s usual heat, it’s the perfect escape from the hot weather if you need a day with air conditioning. Taking a walk through Albuquerque’s Old Town is another fun way to immerse yourself in the culture of the city, and you can find cute cafés and places to shop along the way.
Find Yourself a Cozy Hotel
If you only have a short period of time in a city, you want to make sure that you are well rested. Finding a cute and cozy hotel, especially one that can offer you breakfast, is key. Finding one that is central to the places you are looking to visit is also extremely important to help you save time when you are out and about! Look for a centrally located Albuquerque hotel, or one that is near all the activities you plan on packing into your day!
Explore Breathtaking Sights
Albuquerque is known for having gorgeous sights, especially during the Balloon Festival, when you can see hundreds of hot air balloons filling the desert sky. Another highly rated attraction is the Sandia Peak Tramway, which transports you over canyons for almost 3 miles. If you can, go during sunset for even more gorgeous views as the sky transforms before your eyes!
Wherever I go, food and drink, city and culture, comfort and peace of mind, and adventure and sightseeing are at the top of my mind! What are your favourite things to do when you are travelling? What do you try and fit in when you are short on time? Have you been anywhere for only 24 hours? What did you do?
